Thanks to its pisé and palm tree architecture, Dar Raha is well doted for a start to develop an environmental policy aiming at eliminating the negative impact of its activity on its environment.

Such as it is, rehabilitated according to traditional techniques and in respect of its original structure, Dar Raha building encapsulates the motivation of its funders, to safeguard and promote the cultural heritage of the Dra valley.

In order to meet the conditions of a sustainable tourism development, Dar Raha wants to contribute to the development of a friendly and sustainable tourism activity and to the local heritage safeguard through a series of complementary actions :

  • Minimize as much as possible the consumption of fossil energy through the implementation of a strict control and, as soon as the means will be gathered, the use of alternative (solar) energy ;
  • Minimize consumption of public water ;
  • Minimize the negative impact of Dar Raha’s activity on its environment
    • by using natural rather than industrial equipment and inputs ;
    • by restricting the use of plastic bags and bottles and other non-biodegradable products ;
    • by sorting out, stocking and disposing of waste;
  • Support local economic activity and employment, by contracting local staff on a long term basis and local service providers ;
  • Promote local heritage through the information of local people and visitors, the publication of documents (booklets, postal cards, etc.), discovery walks, camel treks, guided visits of the palm-grove and local history and culture sites, and other initiatives and projects ;
  • Promote local artistic and artisanal creation by exhibitions, workshops and any other relevant means ;
  • Encourage guesthouses and local associations of the valley to develop projects in public hygiene, waste recycling, local environment and heritage safeguard ;
  • Inform and advise our hosts on the best ways to respect the local population and saveguard the natural and cultural environment ;
  • Work in favour of friendly and sustainable tourism practices : friendly relations with the people of the neighbourhood, respectful ways of dressing and behaving, promotion of local history and culture, walking and camel trekking instead of quads and 4x4.

In this objective, the direction and staff of Dar Raha have adopted the following
« Code of conduct for a friendly and sustainable tourism ».

Help us to fight plastic pollution... Drink home-filtred water !!
